Setting Up a Drug Intervention

With people like Brittany Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and Paris Hilton being made a public spectacle in the news recently, Drug Intervention and Drug addiction has become a rather popular topic. Though the celebrities make going to rehab look like a vacation of sorts, I can assure you that Drug intervention is a much more delicate process than it has been made out to be.

What is a Drug intervention?

By definition, a drug intervention is an orchestrated attempt by one, or often many, (usually family and friends) to get someone to seek professional help with their drug addiction. This, in theory, appears to be a great idea. One would think that if they had a problem and a group of loving family and friends organized a meeting to offer them help that they would be more than willing to accept that help. However, experience has proven otherwise.

Why is Drug intervention such a delicate process?

Drug intervention is something of a polarity. The end result can either be really productive or could create more resistance, anger, and self destruction on the part of the addict. If the Drug intervention is not well planned and strategically implemented it has potential to go south.

Because of this, it is important to speak with someone who has experience and is well educated on topic. Search for someone who has prior practical experience in Drug intervention so that they can help you discern the best time to take action.

Please Remember!

Please remember that the drug addict is not a bad person. They are a very sick person who needs intensive treatment and help. Please educate yourself on Drug intervention before trying to help your addicted loved one.
